Guest Performer - George Farnham

George Farnham.jpg

George started his music career 56 years ago at the age of 14. He was working on a sheep station at the time when the late Slim Connor got together with George and taught him how to play guitar. With many months of practicing George became a very competent singer and player and landed a small live performance in Hamilton at the 3HA RADIO STATION on Bill Mullins Melody Ranch program.

He became very popular and picked up many gigs from pubs to festivals throughout Australia and even Country Music Clubs like ours.

George thoroughly loves to entertain and saw a perfect opportunity in recent years to travel North during the winter months, taking the road through outback Queensland and the Northern Territory, to entertain the travelers and towns folk along the way. During his travels he ended up with a regular gig at the Daly Waters Pub in the Northern Territory with being asked back year after year.

Over Georges many years of travelling and performing he says the most memorable one was when he performed on a cruise ship when the Bellamy Brothers were in the audience. The brothers introduced themselves after his performance and said 'they liked what I did'. What an achievement.

George's knowledge of the music industry has also employed him as a sound technician at many festivals in Victoria and New South Wales for over 15 years, and he says it's something he really enjoys doing.

George says the highlight of his music career was in May this year when he travelled to USA and visited Nashville. He was fortunate enough to sing on Honky Tonk Row at Paradise Park and also at Opry Land and in a diner called John A's, with a chap who was George Jones' support act for many years.

We look forward to welcoming George Farnham to Ballarat Country Music this month on the 28th October 2018
